Atlanta, Barnum & Bailey, and Greenville
It’s been a few days since my last update!
Since last time, we played a really sweet house show in downtown Atlanta. Sadly we didn’t get to spend too much time in the city, but I really want to come back and check it out more.
After a rigorous few days of shows, we took a few days respite in Greenville, SC. We went to the circus (my first ever!) and watched the Super Bowl today. I am very glad the Packers won… but I am now sad because NFL is no more for awhile… good thing MLB is starting up soon!
Our next show is in Macon, GA and then it is off to Mississippi… should be interesting. Stay tuned for more news and pics!

Florence, SC
We played another Young Life club tonight in Florence, SC. The venue was really cool… it was the small house on the back of someone’s property. They built it for their sons to play rock and roll in. It was soundproofed, had a stage, kitchen, and lots of space. Super fun! We met all sorts of amazing people… once again, Young Life is awesome.
I experienced my first “Meat & Three” diner today. Basically you choose a meat, and 3 veggies, and you get it them all on a plate with a roll or cornbread, southern style. The diner is called Guignard Diner, and is the favorite place for Yankee-great, Bobby Richardson. Wild!

One thing I really love about SC is all the palm trees!

Here are some more pics from tonight:

Tomorrow we go back to Charlotte. Awesome!

Sumter, SC
We arrived in SC last night after a nice 6hr drive from VA Beach. PW and I were not keen on the landscape of the highway. We were on 95 South most of the way and everything was brown or dead. The sky was also overcast, which made the trip seem even longer. Also on 95 in SC is the home of this puzzling roadside paradise, “South of the Border” (http://www.thesouthoftheborder.com/). We saw billboards for it 60 miles out, and about 5 billboards per mile till we actually got to it.

We played at a Young Life club that evening. This was my first experience seeing a Young Life club event, and I loved it! It’s so awesome to see a committed group of Christians loving on the highschools in the area. One thing that I have noticed after a week of travel is that God’s family is awesome. Everyone has been so generous and kind and a real pleasure to meet.
We are spending a few more days in the Carolinas.
To see a map of where I’ve been so far, I made this fun thing with Google Maps! http://goo.gl/maps/F2S4

Virginia Beach
This weekend was very busy, but such a huge blessing! We rolled into VA Beach on Friday night and spent the weekend here. We met all sorts of amazing people, and we got to be near the ocean, which always makes me happy. Here are the places we played at:
- Friday - We played an evening show at Beach Fellowship (http://www.beachfellowship.com/). We played a set of original songs, and spent some time with the youth pastor and his family afterwards. It was a fantastic way to start of the weekend! This church is also the home of the “Walking Taco”. Check it out on my food blog.
- Saturday - We played a house show with some of PW’s old friends from Young Life. This was a lot of fun, since they had a lot of food, good company, and we played in the living room. We had a great time of fellowship… it’s so great to see people living in close community.
- Sunday - We led worship at Grace Bible Church (http://www.vbgrace.com/) for the 3 morning services, and particpated in their Worship Bash in the evening. It was a very long day, but it was a lot of fun. The church family there is wonderful and very supportive of PW and what he’s doing. My oldest sister lives in Hampton, which is right down the road, and I was able to have lunch with her and her family. That was an unexpected but wonderful treat!
Today we head off to SC for a few days. I haven’t been down there for awhile, so it should be a blast!

Raleigh, NC
Last night was our very first show at a church in Raleigh. Raleigh is a very cool little town, and for a first show, it went very well! I noticed a lot of amazing trees when we rolled into town (I love trees), and some of them looked like they had been around for a lonnnng time. The church we played at had some really cool ones, so here is an outside shot.

You’ll notice from the photo below that PW gets a larger rug to stand on while we’re playing. I think this is to keep me in my place. As a padawan learner, sometimes I can forget the ranks.

After working a few kinks out of the setup, we played and worshipped. I love hearing God’s people worshipping… there is nothing quite like it.
After the show, I ran to my station at the Merch table. I will be the man in charge here for the rest of the tour, and it will be a good chance to get better at my sales pitch.

The tshirts we are selling are very well-designed, feel great (slave-free American Apparel!), and help support PW Gopal immensely. To order one, you can point your browser to http://www.pwgopal.com/store.html.
The family we stayed with last night was really awesome… so hospitibal and made us feel right at home. They even fixed a kingly feast for us late at night, which is great because we weren’t able to eat much yesterday before the show. The room I stayed in was house to an impressive Pez dispenser collection. I was floored! I love Pez, especially after this episode in Seinfeld. Here is a photo:

Today we head off to Virginia Beach for a few days. My oldest sister lives there, and it’ll be awesome to see her!
I’ll report more later on tonight. Ciao!

Snow day
Today was a nice, peaceful day. We stuck around the house and read, played games, ate, and watched the snow fall.
Tomorrow we’ll be heading to Raleigh for our first show. Very excited! I am hoping that the snow won’t make our way too treacherous.
To all my friends experiencing snow… keep a stiff upper lip! Spring is on the way :D

That’s a wrap!
Finished up our recording at the church today! Got some good stuff… next step is to mix it all and make it sound fun!
Here are some pics from the day:

PW during a take… he’s a machine!

Peek-a-boo!

The mountain that we recorded on.
We are supposed to get snow tomorrow… Hopefully it’s just a bad idea and not a reality. Only 2 more days till we hit the road!

Ad Hoc!
There’s something to be said about winging it. Today PW and I experimented with some recording in his church. We got some interesting sounds with the gear we had and I am excited to see what we can come up with.
Banner Elk is a quaint little town nestled in the Appalachian mountains. Quite pretty! I’ll post some more pics tomorrow. We are supposedly going to get a lot of snow tomorrow… I hope not though! This snow nonsense has to stop.
I am really excited to hit the road in a few days. It’s going to be a great tour! Until tomorrow.

Banner Elk, N.C.
After some waltzing around Charlotte, PW and I are now at his pad in the mountains. We are about 4300ft above sea level, so I am thinking I would have a better shot at hitting a home run if I was so inclined ;)
The flight down here was really nice. Once I got past the TSA shenanigans (yes, I opted out), US Airways treated me well and I even got free orange juice. The sky was very clear and I was able to take a few shots from the air. Granted, they are rather average shots, but I love love love seeing the earth from the sky.

I got very used to the back of this wing… and the sound of the jet engine…

Pretty cloud formation, somewhere in MA.

In Charlotte. Notice the lack of snow around the ground… Wunderbar!
That’s all for today. Check back in tomorrow!
